Tools configuration
Ask your AI assistant to set up the actions your AI agent can take during a call, such as transferring the caller, ending the call or sending a text.
What agent tools are, reading the current tool setup, changing the transfer number and the sentence said before a transfer, why the prompt must name the tool, and checking with a call preview.
During a call your AI agent can do more than talk. It can transfer the caller to your team, end the call politely, send a text, trigger a webhook, or look up a credit score. These are its tools. Each tool has a description that tells the agent when to use it, plus settings such as the number to transfer to.
In the app, the Tools Configuration tab is only shown to the Bigly team. Through the MCP, you can read and change these settings yourself if you have permission.
Show me how our transfer tool is set up. Change our transfer number to +1 555 123 0000. Change what the agent says before ending a call to: Thanks for your time, have a great day. Only transfer when the caller asks for a person or agrees to a quote.
Before you start
- Connect your AI assistant to Bigly.
- You need permission to read tools configuration to see it, and permission to update it to change it. Account owners and admins have both by default.
- Know which tools your voice prompt uses. See the warning below.
The agent only gets a tool when its name appears in your voice prompt, for example transfer_call or end_call. If you set up a tool your prompt never mentions, nothing changes on calls. Ask the assistant to check the prompt, or run a call preview.
What the assistant reads
- List: every tool you've customised, with its description and settings.
- Read one: the full setup of a single tool.
A tool you've never customised uses Bigly's default setup, so it may not appear in the list.
Change a tool
- Name the tool and describe the change.
- The assistant shows a preview. It says whether this will create your own setup for that tool or update the existing one, and lists each field with its current value and its new value.
- Confirm in the chat. The next call uses the new setup.

Settings explained
Every tool has a description: plain text that tells the agent when to use it. This is the most important setting, because the agent decides based on it. A description is required every time you change a tool.
| Tool | What it does | Settings you can change |
|---|---|---|
Transfer call (transfer_call) | Transfers the caller to a person. | The number to transfer to, the sentence said just before transferring, the descriptions of both, and an on/off switch. With the switch off, the transfer tool isn't given to the agent. |
End call (end_call) | Ends the call. | The default closing sentence and its description. Both are required. |
Webhook dispatcher (webhook_dispatcher) | Triggers one of your webhooks during the call. | The default webhook, the default message, and the descriptions of both. |
Send SMS (send_sms) | Sends the caller a text during the call. | The default text content. |
Credit score (credit_score) | Looks up the caller's credit score, where your account has that integration. | The description only. |
Limits and rules
- Only these five tools can be changed here.
- A description is always required.
- Each tool accepts only its own settings. A setting from another tool is rejected.
- The on/off switch exists only for Transfer call.
- There is no delete. To undo your changes, ask the assistant to put back the previous text from the preview.
What you can't change here
- Other agent tools, such as the meeting booking and knowledge-base tools, aren't available through the MCP.
- Which webhooks exist and where they send data: see Webhooks.
- Account-wide transfer options such as Forward Calls Instantly (Without Queue) are in AI settings.
Common questions
I changed the transfer number but calls still go to the old one. Check that your prompt mentions transfer_call and that the transfer switch is on. Then run a call preview: it shows the tools the agent will receive.
